Gender Affairs in the CHA |

The Coordination of Humanitarian Assistance (CHA) is a non-profit, non-sectarian and non political organization, established in 1987. The institution is an active organization in area of providing humanitarian assistances and essential services like health care, education, agriculture and community development and education which has had widespread and active contribution in increasing people's access to basic services, improving livelihoods and reduction of poverty. In addition to services delivery and work with the community, the organization actively and together with other institutions has had advocacy activities for increasing their abilities and capacities, making loud voice of poor and deprived people of Afghanistan and has tried to resolve the basic requirements and ensuring human rights. The CHA since its establishment has committed to principles of eliminating discrimination of each type and rights of all human. The CHA believes that participation of women as mean agents of democracy will bring tenderness and democracy, peace, prosperity and development in family, political and social environments.

For realization of this vision, the gender department alongside with the other sectors and departments has undertaken the following activities: • Conducting debate program in main office: Objective of the program is explaining of gender issue to the staff and to pass them up from gender blind which has been acted as a training school for each staff (Male and female) on gender issues.
• Preparation of wall magazine is another activity that has been done by this department. The materials of the magazine are changed every 15 days and most of the materials are gender-related which has had positive effects and enable each one of the colleagues to deeply focus on gender issue through reading of the materials.

The gender committee performs the following tasks: |
|
• Monitoring of gender policies and plans; • Monitoring implementation of projects and gender issues; • Analysis of duties, responsibilities, performance, grades and compensation of employees, providing necessary recommendations for the relevant authorities for improving of performance, passing up delegating less responsibility to women and girls and their capacity development. • Advocacy for increasing ratio of female employees, particularly in key posts (with working authority) and implementation of other procedures related to gender by the HRM department; • Advising all sectors and levels on gender issues;

Tutoring programs of gender primarily comprise the following issues |

• Awareness of people in order to reduce degree of discrimination and violence against women; • Ensuring of justice from legal point of view between men and women; • Gender equality and human welfare; • Living better in absence of discrimination and prejudice; • Peace building and keeping away from of conflicts; • Come to struggle with kinds of violence; • Keeping away from prejudice and violence, way to achieve development and peace;

A secure and developing Afghanistan in which both men and women have security, equality and opportunity in all areas of life. This should follow two main objectives: • Inclusion of gender issues in all programs and projects of the CHA; • Helping creation of a safe working environment, without prejudice and discrimination; One of the ways that may take us close to the aforementioned goals is conducting of workshops, awareness of all staff of the main office about gender issues and carrying out informative talk with direct beneficiaries of the projects about gender issues in the coverage area that may certainly have good effects on the society. Permanent following up of gender issues causes employees to consider gender issues in their programs and make the gender blind not tangible.
